What Queer Kent Life is, why it exists, and what we stand for.
**Queer Kent Life** exists for one simple reason: to unite LGBTQ+ people across Kent.
We bring people together, signpost trusted support and create welcoming spaces that help combat isolation and loneliness. Whether you’re out, not out, new to the area or Kent born and bred, there’s a seat for you.
We’re a community group connecting queer people across the county through coffee mornings, sports – including cricket and tennis – socials, the Pride Games and more. No cliques, no pressure and no door policy based on who you are.
Our mission is to unite Kent’s LGBTQ+ community, tackle isolation and loneliness, support better mental health, and help people build genuine friendships.
Through our events, we create opportunities for people to connect in real life. Any surplus income is reinvested into supporting our community.
We also aim to be Kent’s one-stop destination for LGBTQ+ life, signposting businesses, events, services, charities, community groups, Prides and more.
**We believe we are stronger together.**
Kent is home to a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, with brilliant events, organisations and services operating across the county. However, many people know little about what is available – particularly those living outside the larger towns.
Away from established LGBTQ+ hubs, our community can sometimes feel invisible or isolated.
Queer Kent Life was created to change that. With no single place bringing together everything LGBTQ+ across the county, we set out to connect people, champion queer-friendly spaces and signpost the services our community relies on.
We have worked with LGBTQ+ venues across Kent, including Lâ, Margate Arts Club, Margate Beach Club, The John, The Ship and Pier Ceylon.
Our other partners and collaborators have included Heather House Community Café, Kent Cricket Foundation, Margate Lawn Tennis Club, Tesco and the Julie Rose Stadium.
Through our events, we have also raised money to support Sheppey Pride, Margate Pride, Trans Pride Kent and Herne Bay Pride. We are also proud silver sponsors of the Invicta Icons Cricket Team.
Since Queer Kent Life began, we have helped promote more than 500 LGBTQ+ events, Prides, charities and services, including Be You, It Gets Better, The Forward Trust, Kent Sexual Health, North Kent Mind and Terrence Higgins Trust.
Queer Kent Life is a non-profit community group overseen by a committee. We hold an Annual General Meeting and quarterly committee meetings to support transparent and accountable decision-making.
